Discuss the impact of computer technology on professional nursing practice
The impact of computer technology on professional nursing practice was really something,
it is a very big impact for it really help us in many ways. We all know that nowadays
everything can come instant with the help of technology, like when someone or we are sick
we simply search on what medicine to take on the internet and then with just one click the
answer is there.
So in nursing practice using computer technology like the EHR ( electronic health record);
CIS ( Clinical Information System) was really a big help because in time of emergency,
nurses or even doctors can had an immediate access or response to the scenario because
having these systems helps health care providers to have an easy access and can have an
instant accurate and complete information, and with that patients will receive a better
medical care!
EHR (Electronic Health Record) can improve the ability to diagnose diseases and reduce,
and even prevent-medical errors, improving patient outcomes. EHR not only keeps a record
of a medications or allergies, it also automatically checks for problems whenever a new
medication is prescribed and alerts us when there are conflicts. So the impact of this will
help us nurses to quickly and systematically identify and correct problems.
CIS (Clinical Information System) is a computerized system that organizes, stores and double
chechs all your medical information, your health history, prescriptions, and all the
information are keep together electronically, this replace the paper charts.
So with CIS we can have an immediate access
to complete medical history and this will save our time . With computer technology this
will lead us to a better health care provider that will help our patients to receive a better
medical care !
List and discuss the new emerging computer technologies in nursing and how they impact patient care

List several examples of how Nursing Informatics affects clinical practice, admministration, education, and research. Identify the role of the nurse in handling health care data
As we all know Nursing Informatics (NI) is a specialty that integrates nursing science,
computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information,
knowedge and wisdom in nursing practice. NI supports consumers, patients, nurses, and
other providers in their decision making in all roles and setting.
Nursing Informatics affects clinical practice through its very helpful and useful use to the
nursing profession. For it gave us an easy access to the medical records so it saves our time
and effort when it comes in documentation , and a more comprehensive and systematic
information with regards to the financial and clinical aspect of the hospitals. Through NI
we can easily communicate with the important person like specialists and doctors, for some
emergency case need their assistance. Nursing Informatics also advantages is to be a
computer literate of the future nurses that they can adjust on the modern technology of
our generation. The only disadvantage of nursing informatics for me is that they can easily
tampered the important documents of the patient and it may be lost in some instances if
there is a virus pass out to the network or in the computer. But I believe that Nursing Informatics is
a big help in the improvement and enhancement
of Nursing Care.
The role of the nurse is to characterize and evaluate health care processes and medical records to
all patients. Nursing informatics can also influence the nurses to develop and implement
heightened decision support systems. With nursing informatics, nurses will be able to improve and
promote clinical information system to patient and to other health care practitioners.
Discuss the difference between data, information, and knowledge. Define data integrity and its relevance for health care
Data is unprocessed facts and figures without any added interpretation or analysis.
Information is data that has been interpreted so that it has meaning for the user.
Knowledge is a combination of information, experience and insight that may benefit the
individual or the organisation.
Data integrity refers to maintaining and assuring the accuracy and consistency of data over its entire life-cycle.
As a health care provider, i can provide the privacy and maintain the confidentiality of my
client’s data through the information about my patient should contained on disks that can
and should be secured with other confidential client files. And I can highly recommend
simple controls such as using passwords, wiping and/or reformatting scratch disks and
using hidden files and hidden characters in file names.Having integrity is important in a
health care provider because your data is more likely to
be safe when stored on a system that is well-designed and well-manufactured, rather than
one that is cheaply made.
